Communicating Covid: messages from the Downing Street briefings is a project to collect, analyse and critique the messages which have been conveyed to the UK public since the COVD-19 outbreak in January 2020 from various political, health and media institutions.
We aim to build a large, multimodal corpus of texts and visual outputs which are representative of the top-down discourse of Covid. By submitting these texts and outputs to quantitative and qualitative analyses, we hope to identify the key meanings and selected strategies employed by institutions, and how they have impacted the UK public as this unprecedented health crisis has unfolded.
